About the use of Claude Pro
Are there any usage restrictions for Claude Pro?
Yes. Claude Pro allows at least 5 times more usage than our free service. The number of messages you can send will vary based on the length of your message, including the length of files you attach, and the length of the current conversation. We will warn you before you reach 7 messages, and your message limit will reset every 5 hours.
What do these restrictions actually mean?
If your conversations are relatively short (about 200 English sentences, assuming your sentences are about 15-20 words), you can expect to send about 45 messages every 5 hours, usually more, depending on the current capacity of Claude.
The longer the conversation, the faster you'll use up your limit, especially if it has large attachments. For example, if you uploaded a copy of The Great Gatsby, you might only be able to send 15 messages in that conversation in 5 hours, because every time you send a message, Claude will "reread" the entire conversation, including any large attachments.
Why are there these restrictions?
A powerful model like Claude requires a lot of powerful computers to run, especially when responding to large attachments and long conversations. We set these limits to ensure that many people can try Claude for free, while allowing advanced users to integrate Claude into their daily workflow.
Your Claude Pro limits are based on the total length of your conversations and the number of messages you send. Please note that these limits may vary depending on your current capacity in Claude.
To get the most out of Claude Pro:
When you want to discuss a new topic, you can use the "AI" icon in the upper left cornerStart a new conversation. Claude needs to re-read the entire conversation every time you send a message, so starting a new conversation will limit the amount of work Claude needs to do to continue the conversation. Bonus: Claude will also respond faster to shorter conversations.
Ask multiple questions at once, especially when you're asking Claude questions about a long document. Since Claude needs to reread the conversation every time he sends a new message, asking questions in separate messages will exhaust your limit faster than asking multiple questions in one message.
Do not re-upload the fileClaude can see the entire content of your conversation, so you don't need to upload the same file multiple times (unless you start a new conversation).
