Domestic and foreign DNS encyclopedia

This is a collection of domestic and foreign DNS servers. They are relatively good and well-known. If you like them, you can save them!

What is DNS?

DNS, or Domain Name System, converts human-readable domain names (eg, boxpu.com) into machine-readable IP addresses (eg, 192.168.8.1).

DNS Basics

All computers on the Internet, from your smartphone or laptop to the servers that serve up content for a slew of retail websites, find each other and communicate with each other by using numbers. These numbers are called IP addresses. When you open your web browser and go to a website, you don't have to remember and type in a long number. Instead, you type in a domain name, like example.com, and end up in the right place.

The DNS service is a globally distributed service that converts human-readable names (such as http://www.example.com) into numeric IP addresses (such as 192.0.2.1) that computers use to connect to each other. The Internet's DNS system works like a phone book, managing the mapping between names and numbers. DNS servers convert name requests into IP addresses, controlling which servers end users access when they enter a domain name into a web browser. These requests are called queries.

Types of DNS Services

Authoritative DNS: An authoritative DNS service provides an update mechanism for developers to manage their public DNS names. It then responds to DNS queries, translating domain names into IP addresses so that computers can communicate with each other. Authoritative DNS has the final authority for the domain and is responsible for providing responses from recursive DNS servers with IP address information.

Recursive DNS: Clients don't usually make queries directly to an authoritative DNS service. Instead, they usually connect to another type of DNS service called a resolver, or a recursive DNS service. A recursive DNS service is like a doorman at a hotel: it doesn't have any DNS records of its own, but acts as an intermediary to get DNS information on your behalf. If the recursive DNS has a DNS reference that it has cached or stored for a while, it responds to the DNS query by providing the source or IP information. If it doesn't, it passes the query to one or more authoritative DNS servers to find the information.

Foreign DNS

1. Google Public DNS

Google Public DNS is a free domain name resolution service (DNS) provided by Google since December 5, 2009.

Google Public DNS is a free domain name resolution service launched by Google for the general public.The main purpose of the service is to improve web browsing speed and improve the browsing experience of web users. For this reason, Google does not use widely used DNS programs such as BIND, but instead improves DNS server technology with self-developed software. On a two-tier computer cluster, the cache DNS server balances the load to improve performance while ensuring the security and accuracy of the DNS service.

The following is the DNS address for this service:

  • IPv4 Address:
    8.8.8.8 (google-public-dns-a.google.com)
    8.8.4.4 (google-public-dns-b.google.com)
  • IPv6 Address:
    2001:4860:4860::8888
    2001:4860:4860::8844
  • DNS Address:
    dns.google

Google's free DNS servers are often ranked as the best, they're easy to remember, and available to everyone. It even offers impressive speeds.

The main advantage of Google DNS comes from their reputation as a company. Google makes a lot of money every year and can afford to provide the most stable and resilient DNS servers. The only problem with this DNS server is that they store information about your operations, which they can share with third parties if the US government decides they need that information. However, for users who are not concerned about this issue, Google is generally considered the best DNS server.

Other features include an anti-phishing filter. By collecting a list of malicious websites, OpenDNS will block these malicious websites when users visit them through their service. OpenDNS recently launched an anti-phishing service (PhishTank) so that users around the world can report and view untrustworthy phishing websites.

Domestic public DNS service

1.114DNS

114DNS originated from the ultra-large DNS system that Nanjing Tradewind used to provide backup services for about 20 million broadband users of China Telecom and China Unicom in two major provinces in 2010. Against the backdrop of the nationwide large-scale DNS failure on May 19, 2009, the hijacking of Baidu's domain name in 2010, repeated attacks on domestic domain name registrars and some authoritative DNS service units, and relevant agencies' monitoring of more than 50% of domestic domain name services being unsafe, Nanjing Tradewind took the lead and worked with multiple telecom operators for more than a year to develop a professional DNS platform that was deployed at multiple points using BGP Global AnyCast technology. It also provides public DNS resolution services and authoritative DNS resolution services. 114DNS will provide reliable basic security for China's Internet and e-commerce.

4. Baidu Public DNS

Faster and more stable: Which is the fastest and most stable website in China? That’s right, www.baidu.com. Baidu Public DNS has the same basic network, infrastructure and system architecture as Baidu Search. More importantly, we are a group of people.
Pure and without hijacking:As China's largest traffic company, Baidu is the biggest victim of DNS hijacking. Baidu's goal in building a public DNS is to provide a pure and secure traffic environment for the majority of netizens, and to curb hijacking chaos through the power of its products.
Safety protection:Another additional function of Baidu Public DNS is security protection. Relying on Baidu's safe search technology, if the website you visit has virus or Trojan risk, we will intercept and prompt it in real time, effectively ensuring the user's Internet security.
CDN affinity:Baidu Public DNS has recursive exit nodes all over the country. When a query request does not hit the primary cache, we will dispatch the request to the recursive node closest to the user for further query. Therefore, it will not affect the scheduling progress of the CDN. On the other hand, we are actively implementing edns-client-subnet, which will greatly improve the CDN scheduling accuracy, and I believe CDN manufacturers will like it.
