How does it work?

Great question! When you upload a PNG (Portable Network Graphics) file, similar colors in the image are merged. This technique is called "quantization." By reducing the number of colors, a 24-bit PNG file can be converted to a much smaller 8-bit indexed color image. All unnecessary metadata is also removed.
